About Drive Ready Guide
Who runs this site, why it exists, and how affiliate links work.
Who runs this site
Drive Ready Guide is operated by Douglas Gorden Jr / Gorden Web Design. I'm a one-person studio — I build websites for small businesses and run a small publishing network on the side. Drive Ready Guide is part of that network.
I don't drive trucks for a living, I don't work in auto repair, and I don't have a testing lab. What I have is a habit of comparing products honestly, with attention to what's actually useful vs. what's just marketing copy.
How I picked these kits
I started with Amazon's "car emergency kits for vehicles" search and filtered for: more than 500 reviews, clear product photos, $30-$200 price range, and complete kits (cables + first aid + inflator, OR a standalone jump starter). I then excluded cheap $15 "blanket + triangle" bundles that don't help with the most common failures (dead battery, flat tire).
I have not personally tested every kit on this site. The ratings and review counts are from Amazon. Where I have an opinion based on the spec sheet (e.g. "this jumper is too short for an F-150"), I say so. Where I don't, I say "I haven't tested this personally" and link to the reviews.
How affiliate links work
Disclosure: This site is a participant in the Amazon Services LLC Associates Program, an affiliate advertising program designed to provide a means for sites to earn fees by linking to amazon.com. As an Amazon Associate, I earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date shown but may change.
In plain English: when you click a product link on this site and buy something on Amazon, Amazon pays me a small commission (typically 1-4% of the sale). It doesn't change your price. You pay the same as if you'd gone to Amazon directly.
Affiliate revenue is what keeps this site running. I'd rather show you Amazon's actual prices than hide them behind a subscription wall or "free trial" that bills you after 30 days.
What I won't do
- I won't recommend a kit I wouldn't buy with my own money.
- I won't change a review because a manufacturer offered me free product or payment.
- I won't add a kit just because someone offered a higher affiliate rate.
- I won't claim I tested something I didn't test.
